This official guide map published by the Shodoshima Reijyokai (小豆島霊場会) is very
useful and all color printed. It provides two colors to distinguish ‘henro roads for
walking and bus pilgrims’ in red and green.

There are information about marks on roads such as ‘stones’ (sekichu or hyoseki/石柱 or 標石), which have been marking the direction of the route over the past 300 years ago), ‘small guide boards ’and ‘fireplugs’ for pilgrims.

It also contains information about the distance between temples, so it will help you make a plan for a walking pilgrimage.

There is the list of lodging facilities admitted by the Shodoshima Reijyokai at the end of
the book. It has their addresses, phone numbers, and it will be very useful for both
walking and car pilgrims. (Note: it doesn’t include all lodging facilities at Shodoshima.)

It will be very useful for pilgrims, especially who plan to take walking paths. There are
azimuth directions on each map page, so you can use a compass to make sure which
direction you are. There are many road signs placed on henro-michi, but some places
are very complicated and easy to get lost. If you are lost, the map book will help you.

At the end of the book, there are the folding whole map of the Shodoshima pilgrimage
and also the lists of 88 temples, manners at the sacred sites, and books of sutras. It
also provides the recommended courses of both walking and car pilgrims. On the back
of the book, there is the information about the ways to Shodoshima.
