Stole with gold brocade(輪袈裟 / wagesa)Red

¥1,500

This is a Nishijin-ori botan-gara kinran wagesa (wagesa is Japanese for stole). Nishijin (西陣) is a district in Kyoto known for the production of traditional textiles (ori 織).

The wagesa has a peony-pattern (botan-gara 牡丹柄) on golden brocade (kinran 金襴).

You can wear it not only on the Shikoku Pilgrimage and its Bangai-fudasho (Bekkakureijyo, or the 20 additional temples with a historical connection to the Shikoku henro), but also on other pilgrimages such as the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage (Kansai region), the Bandō 33 Kannon Pilgrimage (Kanto region) and Chichibu 34 Kannon Sanctuaries (Saimata Prefecture).

Wagesa is part of the pilgrim's traditional attire and a necessary item on the pilgrimage.

It must be taken off when going into a washroom or while eating meals. Please treat it carefully (do not place it on the ground, but on a chair or table).
